Dr. Zoi Alexopoulou, MD PhD

Dr Alexopoulou is a Doctor in neurology and lecturer at the University of Oxford, with a solid academic and clinical background. She is an experienced Clinical Research Physician with a demonstrated history of working in the pharmaceutical and clinical research industry. She is skilled in the healthcare sector, drug development, science promotion, consultancy as a medical advisor and a specialist in Higher Education teaching.


Being a lecturer at the University of Oxford, she has substantial teaching experience both at university-level (lecture style, practicals, seminars) and College-level (tutorials and admissions interviewing). She has also built a portfolio in the Higher Education Academy on Enhancing Teaching methods at Higher Education.


She is skilled in Neurology, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Research and Translational Drug Development. She has over 3 years experience in running commercial clinical trials as a site-investigator in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis (multiple trials by Roche, Novartis, Merck, Eli Lilly, Biogen, EISAI, BenevolentAI, Genentech, etc).


Being a graduate of the University of Oxford both for her Medical Degree as well as her PhD (DPhil), she is an award-winning academic, having a proven publication track record and extensive experience in knowledge dissemination in major international conferences (platform presentations and posters). Prominent such examples include being the winner of the Tournament of Neurologists in Training (EAN Congress 2017) and winning the Thomas Willis Early Career Researcher Award in 2017 at the University of Oxford. She has worked at Oxford University Hospitals both as a clinical fellow but also as a medical monitor.


Having worked in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Alexopoulou was part of the research leadership team for new drug development and worked with key opinion leaders to advance our understanding of disease, maintaining a clinical network and organizing advisory board meetings. In addition, she was responsible for biomarker assessment and planning for clinical studies.
